Election Administration
Graduate Certificate
The Graduate Certificate in Election Administration is a 15-credit hour program within the Auburn University Master of Public Administration Program. The certificate requirements include 3 required courses and 2 electives, which are available online.
The curriculum is designed to provide graduate-level students and practicing professionals with the knowledge, skills and abilities to function effectively in election administration. The certificate can be earned while pursuing an MPA or independently. Courses cover institutional arrangements, law and policy, and critical contemporary issues facing the election administration community. Students are also required to complete an ePortfolio.

The American election administration environment and the roles of, and relationships between local and state election offices, federal agencies, and other stakeholders including nonprofits, philanthropy, and the private sector.

Current American election administration reforms through policy and regulation at the national, state and local levels.

POLI 6150 Intergovernmental Relations

American federalism and the intergovernmental system, including theory, historical developments, major themes, and emerging issues.

POLI 6470 Comparative Election Administration

Comparative election administration systems and electoral structures in western democracies and other countries that use elections in the selection of leaders and policy determinations.

POLI 6480 Public Sector Information, Security, and Risk Management

Information in the public sector, including public records access, open meetings, records protection, and risk management approaches.

POLI 7520 Program Evaluation

The theory and practice of program evaluation in the public sector with attention to program planning, process assessment, and impact assessment.

*Practitioners can use the Election Center Certified Elections/Registration Administrator (CERA) program certification to fulfill the internship requirement.

Application Process
Applicants should ensure these materials are submitted to the Graduate School:

An application for admission as a non-degree seeking graduate student to a Graduate Certificate program
